Words by the Letters They Contain
Position stops mattering the moment a board tightens. What a player needs then is any word carrying the tile stuck on the rack, wherever that tile falls, and that is what these lists answer.
The problem tiles are the expensive ones. A Q at 10 points pays for a turn outright, and loses a game outright when it never leaves the rack.
Playing a Q Without a U
Almost every Q word in English puts a U straight after it, so the tile is only as playable as the U supply. The exceptions are the words a serious player memorises: they turn a dead rack into a scoring turn on the draw where no U ever arrives.
Letter Pairs on One Rack
Two named letters at once narrows a search hard, which is what makes the pairings worth studying separately. A rack holding both J and Q rarely finds one word for the pair, and the stronger play splits them across two turns rather than gambling on the word that unites them.

Learn the short exceptions. QAT, QOPH and TRANQ all play without one, and each turns a Q that arrived late into points instead of a dead rack at the finish.

AX, EX, OX, XI and XU. Placed beside an existing word, each scores in two directions at once, which is why the shortest X words outscore many longer ones.
3Which tiles are hardest to place?
Q first, because it needs a U or one of the rare exceptions. J follows: the bag holds a single J, priced at 8 points in Scrabble and 10 in Words With Friends.
4What do I do with three of the same vowel?
Play the word that spends two of them. Vowel-heavy words score little on their own, and they free the rack for a draw that holds consonants worth scoring with.
